So in the past four years, I have worked my way up from a tech wannabe to a real computer systems and networking engineer, but it's been a long time since I've done anything with web content creation and graphic design. I'm certainly no web developer.

In fact, the part that I thought would be most difficult about putting a website together were rather easy -- stuff like understanding the relationship between the Linux host provided by A2 cloud hosting service and the C-Panel server that runs on it.

I started looking at WordPress for this travel blog that I will be creating as I travel through Asia and India, but that seemed like the easy way out. I had used Joomla! in the past and had actually mocked up a web page back when we were testing it for the Bellefontaine Examiner website nearly 15 years ago. I thought about going that route but I have always wanted to try Drupal.

Helpful Hints

If you're like me and need some help figuring out all the technical stuff under the hood of Drupal and the finer points of Cascading Style Sheets, I found this kick-ass site call OSTraning.com that has lots of cool tips.

Like this article that explains the Paragraphs module and helped incorporate neat features like this Info Box into my website design.

When I started looking for hosting services that would run Drupal, A2 was one of the first few I came across and, not to sound like an ad, but the price was better for a basic package than even the low-end WordPress stuff I had checked out. It's really quite a steal for a three-year deal.

The RedBirD rises from the ash.

Now comes the hard part, figuring out what looks good -- or at least good to me. I haven't done graphic design in a long time and I only know the bare basics of HTML and CSS. Hopefully though, my lack of technical skills in these areas can be forgiven for this basic travel blog -- at least to start.

I'm sure the RedBirD.earth website will change and evolve as my adventures progress and my degree of comfort with Drupal and its various modules continues to grow.

My main goal, though, is that this is a fun way for my friends and family to follow me without asking them to subscribe to this or that social media platform. And I would love to hear from you in the comments of the Forum. If you don't have an account yet, just attempt to post and it will create a request.

I hope you enjoy,

Reuben
